A Umatilla County employee was killed when a train struck the road grader he was operating to spread gravel.
The East Oregonian reports. the accident on Thursday killed 63-year-old Stanley McCall.
The train’s operator told the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office that he saw McCall bend down near the tracks and tried to alert him with the train’s whistle.
The newspaper reports drivers at the crossing can’t see westbound trains until they emerge from a curve nearby.
The crossing also doesn’t have traffic-control arms.
