A former Brigham City, Utah police officer is suing the city after being fired over alleged off-hours contact with a female officer he was training.
Ronnie Aldridge, in his lawsuit filed in October in 1st District Court, claims he was fired for extensive texting and phone contacts with the officer. He had filed for divorce from his wife at the time.
City policy bans off-hours contacts between field training officers and trainees, and Aldridge was fired Jan. 18.
City officials declined to comment on the suit.
The wrongful termination complaint seeks Aldridge’s reinstatement and payment of his lost income and benefits.
According to the suit, Brigham City Mayor Dennis Fife signed off on Aldridge’s termination.
Fife last week acknowledged having an extramarital affair but said he plans to stay in office.
