Red Cross officials have announced the release of a smartphone application they hope will save lives if Colorado and Wyoming experience floods from runoff this spring.
Gino Greco, CEO of the Red Cross Colorado & Wyoming Region, says “the floods and flash floods of 2013, coupled with the recent flooding in Wyoming, really bring home the importance of this new mobile app.”
The free app gives iPhone, iPad and Android smartphone and tablet users instant access to local and real-time information, so they know what to do before, during and after a flood.
Among other features, it includes “I’m safe” messaging that allows users to let family and friends know they are out of harm’s way, as well as a toolkit with a flashlight, strobe light and audible alarm.
