Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Division is investigating after a female employee severed four fingers on her right hand in a workplace accident at a potato plant in Boardman.
The East Oregonian reported that agency spokeswoman Melanie Mesaros says the unidentified woman was cleaning around machinery used to cut potatoes when the accident occurred last Thursday at Oregon Potato Co.
Mesaros did not have any further information about the employee. She was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston for treatment.
The spokeswoman says investigations can take as long as six months to complete.
Oregon Potato Co. grows and processes potatoes, fruits and vegetables. The company did not immediately respond to an email request for comment sent after business hours Monday.
