A hail storm that struck northern Colorado and Wyoming in July has caused at least $25 million in damage to insured private property.
The Greeley Tribune reported insurance professionals have deemed the July 29 storm catastrophic, which means the insured damage is believed to have exceeded $25 million. The exact amount of the damage hasn’t yet been released.
The storm brought hail, rain and high winds of up to 55 mph in Weld County.
Crops and private property were damaged, and lightning strikes sparked several fires.
State Farm Insurance spokeswoman Angela Thorpe says the company is working to help customers file claims.
She says more than 10,000 claims have been filed in Colorado for damage caused by severe weather between July 27-29. In Wyoming, that number is about 2,000.
