The owner of a company that provided federally mandated training for construction firms that work with asbestos has pleaded guilty to giving certifications to people he knew had not taken his course.

U.S. Attorney Annette Hayes says Isaac Cole owned a company that provided asbestos training courses. According to his plea agreement, Cole certified various asbestos workers between 2013 and 2016 even though they had not completed the safety courses.

Cole admitted in his plea agreement that he took additional fees to provide the fake certifications.

asbestosHayes says Cole falsified documents as part of a scheme to violate the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act.

His sentencing was set for Jan. 13. Under the plea agreement, federal prosecutors will recommend probation and may seek fines or other penalties.
