California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund is offering a 30-day credit extension to policyholders affected by wildfires currently burning in Northern California counties declared states of emergency by Gov.Gavin Newsom.
The counties are Alpine, Butte, El Dorado, Lassen, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Siskiyou, Shasta, Tehama, and Trinity.
There are a number of ongoing active fires of interest. The Dixie Fire has burned 700,630 acres and is 35% contained, the Monument Fire has grown to 14,250 acres and is only 10% contained, and the McFarland Fire is 115,996 acres and is 52% percent contained, according to the latest update from CalFire Friday afternoon.
More than 1.4 million acres have burned so far this year in California, with 6,630 fires reported, and 1,852 structures damaged or destroyed, CalFire is reporting.
California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara on Thursday issued a mandatory one-year moratorium on insurance companies from non-renewing or cancelling residential property insurance policies.
State Fund policyholders can request the extension by calling State Fund’s customer service center at (888) 782-8338 or through their insurance broker.
State Fund says it will continue to monitor the situation and be flexible to expand the 30-day credit extension if necessary.
