The Utah Insurance Department issued a warning about unlicensed companies and individuals offering coverage for damaged packages or packages stolen from porches.
The department noted that some companies are using technicalities and fine print to avoid paying consumers, while others don’t have cash to pay claims.
“When shopping online, pay close attention to your shipping protection options and who is offering the coverage,” Utah Insurance Commissioner Jon Pike warned. “Legitimate shipping coverage providers will be licensed as insurance companies or insurance agents with the Utah Insurance Department. These companies are vetted to ensure they operate according to the law and can pay claims when they arise.”
The department advised going online to check if a provider is licensed.
