D’Arelli Says “Here They Go Again”
Rancho Cordova…The California Department of Insurance has invited leaders within the insurance industry to participate in “prenotice discussions” regarding the latest expansion of the Garamendi Agenda. Specifically, the CDI is contemplating amendments to the Name Approval Regulations.

“Here they go again.” said Michael J. D’Arelli, Vice President, Legislative & Regulatory Affairs for the Western Insurance Agents Association.

“When we first drew our Line in the Sand, some wondered if our prediction of an unending stream of burdensome regulations and over-reaching legislation would prove true. Well, the Department recently rolled out their latest version of Disclosure regs and now they have proposed changes to the Name Approval process. It’s crystal clear, the Garamendi Agenda is getting bigger, not smaller, and we must remain vigilant to protect our members.

We are already one of the most heavily regulated industries in California and agents face some of the most burdensome barriers to entering the marketplace in the country. This latest addition to the Garamendi Agenda is proof positive of the Department’s hostility to our livelihoods. I wouldn’t miss this meeting for the world,” concluded D’Arelli.

The Western Insurance Agents Association is a leader in the fight to defeat the Garamendi Agenda and its endless steam of hostile regulations. To that end, WIAA has established a legal defense fund and is mobilizing agents statewide to defeat onerous legislation.

The Western Insurance Agents Association (WIAA) represents approximately 750 independent property and casualty insurance agencies and brokerages, and more than 5,000 licensed insurance professionals. Until December 31st, 2002, WIAA was an affiliate of PIA in California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico and operated as the PIA Group. WIAA no longer has any affiliation with the PIA.
