Suellyn Boastick Selected as 2002 National Outstanding CSR of the Year

September 9, 2002

Suellyn Boastick of the Lewis Insurance Store Inc., in Champaign, Illinois, has just been awarded the most prestigious honor available to insurance customer service representatives – the 2002 National Outstanding CSR of the Year Award.

The Society of Certified Insurance Service Representatives (CISR) and the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) selected Boastick as the winner of this award from a field of 31 state winners. After five finalists were chosen from this field, a blue-ribbon panel of four judges evaluated the finalists based on their individual contributions to the insurance community, and the strength of their essays written on the topic, “The Role of a CSR During a Hard Market.”

Boastick, a Commercial Lines manager customer service representative and systems administrator, has been in the insurance profession for 10 years.

“Ms. Boastick’s essay showed genuine care and concern for her clients, particularly in helping them through the difficult transition to higher premiums that characterizes the current market,” said Dr. William T. Hold, CEO of the Society of CISR. “She is an excellent representative not only for all CSRs, but for everyone within the insurance industry.”

In her essay, Boastick said she makes it a point to discuss market changes with each of her insureds well before they receive their policies, so they understand that when their premiums soar, “it is not an attack on them individually.”

Boastick receives a cash award of $1,000, a distinctive gold and diamond lapel pin, and her name is inscribed on a sculpture on permanent display at the Society of CISR’s national headquarters in Austin, Texas. A scholarship will be awarded to her employer, The Lewis Insurance Store Inc., for participation in any National Alliance program.

In addition to the selection of Boastick as the national award recipient, four national finalists were chosen from a particularly competitive field of applicants: Bonnie L. Avila of Marsh USA Inc.; Kris Kortum, of Corporate Insurance Management; Lisa M. Lubey of E.L. Webster Insurance Agency; and Margo L. May of Marsh USA Inc.
