Specialty insurer Markel International is preparing to open a branch office in Rotterdam this September. It will be Markel’s first Dutch office.
The new business will be called Markel International Netherlands, which follows the example of the company’s existing operations in mainland Europe: Markel International Sweden, based in Stockholm, and Markel International Espana, with offices in Madrid and Barcelona.
Markel said the Netherlands office will be built with a team of 21 insurance professionals. The office will specialize in professional indemnity insurance, directors’ and officers’ insurance, general liability and engineering insurance.
The Dutch team will be overseen by Steve Carroll, formerly the divisional managing director of Markel’s retail practice in the UK and now head of Markel International’s retail business both in the UK and overseas.
