Mesirow Financial Formalizes Management of Insurance Services Division

Chicago-based Mesirow Financial announced that its Insurance Services Division will be led by a newly formed Insurance Management Committee (IMC).

The IMC has named Norman Malter president of the Insurance Division, John Harney has been appointed chief operating officer and Michelle Gurgone has been promoted to managing director and named the unit’s new chief administrative officer.

Members of the IMC include:

  • Norman Malter, president, with a concentration in property and casualty;
  • John Harney, chief operating officer, P/C, personal lines and structured settlements;
  • Scott Dann, senior managing director, P/C;
  • Mike Mackey, senior managing director, P/C;
  • Linda Price, senior managing director, P/C;
  • Brian Diedrich, senior managing director, employee benefits;
  • Mark Kmety, senior managing director, employee benefits; and
  • Dana Mikstay, senior managing director, life and disability.

Richard S. Price, chairman and CEO of Mesirow Financial, established the company’s insurance services business in 1972, which began in life insurance and expanded to include employee benefits, property and casualty, private client insurance and structured settlements. He was appointed president of the agency in 1982 and initiated a growth strategy that allowed Mesirow Financial to become the second-largest independent insurance agency in Chicago. He was named chairman and CEO of Mesirow Financial in March 2011.

Founded in 1937, Mesirow Financial it is an independent, employee-owned firm with 1,200 employees in locations across the country and in London.
