Zenaida Buenaflor, 49, and Phillip White, 49, both of Stockton, Calif., pled guilty to insurance fraud. The couple surrendered to authorities on two felony counts of insurance fraud, grand theft and perjury. Buenaflor paid $2,500 restitution and was sentenced to three years probation and a $110 fine. White was sentenced to one year probation and a $110 fine.
On Nov. 29, 2000, Buenaflor was reportedly involved in a traffic collision with another driver determined to be at fault. Buenaflor claimed property damage, medical expenses, and lost wages of $9,000.
According to investigators, Buenaflor did not suffer lost wages. White, her ex-husband, allegedly assisted her in preparing false documents to support the fraudulent claim of lost wages. Buenaflor supposedly provided the questionable documentation from businesses owned by her ex-husband.
