Oklahoma AG, Concentra Settle Workers’ Comp Billing Practices Dispute

May 5, 2008

Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson and Concentra Health Services have forged a settlement that requires Concentra to pay the state more than $182,000 and institute new training procedures related to the company’s billing practices.

The AG’s office reported the dispute concerned Concentra’s method for billing CompSource Oklahoma for providing medical services for job-related injuries.

The state alleged the company billed CompSource — a state agency that provides workers’ compensation coverage to government and private employers in Oklahoma — more for services than was allowed under the fee schedule.

The agreement requires Concentra to pay $44,189.72 in restitution to CompSource, $88,379.44 in penalties to the Oklahoma Crime Victims’ Compensation Fund and $50,000 in investigative costs to the attorney general’s office.

“The agreement also requires Concentra to provide current and future employees and contractors who are involved in the billing process with coding and compliance training,” Edmondson said in a bulletin released by his office. “The company’s employees and contractors will also complete an anonymous, yearly billing and claims compliance integrity questionnaire. Any questionnaire that alleges a coding or billing violation will be submitted to our office for review.”
