Insurance Services Office has lowered its rating on Yuma, Ariz.’s family home building codes, a move that could result in higher homeowners rates, according to the Associated Press. Yuma received a grade six grades lower than the previous rating. Yuma was one grade from the bottom on a scale of 10. The city last updated the codes in 2001. Building officials had recommended the review, while developers were concerned that changes in the codes would hurt city growth and raise building costs. Insurance companies may consider the ISO ratings when calculating homeowners insurance rates, according to industry experts.
