Steven D. Johnson has been named CEO of the Applied Systems Client Network (ASCnet).

Johnson has held staff leadership roles in five associations over the last 26 years. Most recently, he was executive director of the National Association of Quick Printers.

He succeeds Rick Morgan, who has served over the last 10 months as interim CEO. ASCnet moves its headquarters to suburban Chicago later this year.

City of Hope’s National Insurance Industry Council (NIIC) is honoring Kevin Kelley, CEO of Ironshore, with The Spirit of Life Award, City of Hope’s most prestigious philanthropic honor.

City of Hope is a research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. The NIIC was founded in 1978 by a group of key insurance industry executives and is composed of prominent property/casualty companies, law firms, brokers, accounting firms, reinsurers, executive placement firms and actuaries in the insurance industry. Motivated by its commitment to innovative medical research and quality patient care, and inspired by the guiding humanitarian principles of City of Hope, the NIIC has raised more than $19 million through its fundraising efforts.

Prior to joining Ironshore, Kelley was with Lexington Insurance Co., where he started as a senior underwriter in 1975. In 1987, he was elected president and CEO of Lexington Insurance, where he remained until 2008. He has also served as executive vice president of AIG Property Casualty Group and president of AIG Domestic Personal Lines.

John R. Karlen has been appointed president and chief operating officer of FinCor Holdings Inc. (FinCor), a Lansing, Mich.-based subsidiary of Medical Professional Mutual Insurance Co. In this role, Karlen will lead all of the FinCor subsidiaries including MHA Insurance Co., Washington Casualty Co., The Risk Management and Patient Safety Institute Inc., FinCor Solutions Inc. and Capital Risk Solutions SPC.

He has more than 30 years of experience in the medical professional liability insurance industry. Karlen’s industry experience includes underwriting vice president, product and services development vice president as well as vice president of administration.

Karlen currently is president of Conventus Inter-Insurance Exchange in Woodbridge, N.J. Previous experience included management positions at Physicians Insurance Mutual of Seattle, Physicians Insurance of Wisconsin, CNA Insurance, Orion Group and Safeco Insurance. He holds a number of insurance designations including Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, Associate in Reinsurance and Associate in Premium Audit.

Cline Wood Agency Inc., with headquarters in the Kansas City, Mo. area, has added Jack Gagliardi to its Transportation team as vice president and director of the Independent Contractor Division.

In his new position at Cline Wood, Gagliardi is responsible for managing the design and delivery of insurance and risk management solutions to independent contractors and trucking companies that utilize them.

Gagliardi is a veteran insurance and risk management professional in the trucking industry and has broad experience with all sizes of trucking companies. He previously served as executive vice president with the company that is now Wells Fargo. Gagliardi also has served as the Transportation Division national practice leader for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. and as the practice leader for Marsh Transportation.

Cline Wood specializes in the transportation and agribusiness industries. It serves clients nationwide with an additional sales and service office in Arlington, Texas.

Wichita, Kan.-based the IMA Financial Group Inc., a diversified financial services company specializing in insurance, asset and risk management, has hired Emily Aronis as an account manager in its IMA of Kansas health risk management practice, Life IQ.

Prior to joining IMA, Aronis worked as the wellness administrator for a local aerospace firm, as well as a local nonprofit organization.
