A New Jersey man was ordered to pay back the more than $65,000 he admitted to stealing from the local township’s fire district. Joseph Greenfield, 63, was sentenced Friday by Ocean County Superior Court Judge Edward J. Turnbach, and also must serve three years of probation for the theft.
Greenfield, who operated the Greenfield Insurance Agency, stole insurance premiums paid by the Board of Fire Commissioners by overcharging the board for premiums on various policies over a nine-year period. In November, Greenfield pleaded guilty to overbilling the board by submitting vouchers on his own stationery rather than providing an itemized billing statement from the insurance provider.
