Rhode Island’s Medical Disciplinary Board has revoked Chiropractor Andrew J. Lombardi’s license to practice in the State following an indictment in Massachusetts alleging that that he had submitted 39 fraudulent claims to insurance companies for medical services he never performed.
Lombardi recently plead guilty in federal court on related tax evasion charges and the insurance fraud allegations were dropped as part of a plea bargain, but Rhode Island authorities were not part of that process, and weren’t bound by the court’s decision.
Their own investigation revealed that Lombardi regularly practices in Rhode island, and frequently signs medical care certificates relating to payments on insurance policies in the state. In light of his conviction, and the nature of the allegations they felt revocation of his license was justified. He has 10 days to appeal the decision and request a hearing, but the board indicated it would continue to revoke his license.
