Bethesda-based insurance broker Meltzer Schiner & Carroll/Meltzer Group Benefits is taking nearly 30 children who participated in Washington D.C.’s “For Love of Children” (FLOC) Program to the Six Flags America theme park in Largo, Maryland on Friday, August 24th – one of the few “claims” an insurer likes to receive.
Alan Meltzer, the group’s founding partner, started the “Good Grades Incentive Program” in conjunction with FLOC in 1996. Each year as part of the rewards for participating students the agency sponsors a trip to a local amusement park for those students who achieve good grades throughout the school year.
FLOC’s on-site program director Tim Payne said that the program entices students to work extra hard in school and encourages them to put in extra effort to achieve good grades. The youngsters are inspired by the program, as they appreciate that someone is concerned about their grades. They in turn work with younger children to build the same sense of achievement.
Meltzer is one of the leading life and health agencies in the Greater Washington metropolitan area, and is involved in numerous other community projects.
