In a written statement Insurance Information Institute head Gordon Stewart called insurance “vital to society,” and indicated that “without insurance, it would be impossible to recover from this disaster. Insurers are committed to the rebuilding of New York City.”
The III announced that it will open a central information office in New York this week, and gave two hotline numbers to help with questions from businesses and individuals about the insurance implications of this tragedy.
The national number is: 1-800-942-4242; it’s open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The number to reach the New York Insurance dept. is: 1-800-339-1759, it’s open during the same hours seven days a week.
The III also has individual contact numbers for a large number of insurance companies.
