James J. Maguire, Jr., (“Jamie”) President & CEO of Philadelphia Insurance Companies, will participate in the 2003 Lake Placid CEO Ironman Challenge on July 27, 2003 said a company announcement.
It described the CEO Ironman Challenge as a division “within the HSBC Ironman Lake Placid triathlon that recognizes the particular demands of CEOs & company Presidents who juggle running a company in this tough economic environment, with training 15-20 hours per week, and looking after their families.”
The event consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike race, and 26.2 mile marathon run. When asked why he was doing the race, Maguire replied: “Fitness and maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle is a big part of our company culture. Completing an ironman triathlon demands the highest degree of preparation, discipline and persistence — all qualities that carry over into the business world and are a part of any successful organization’s culture. In addition to finishing in under 11 hours, I’m hoping to raise money for a local children’s charity.”
