New York Superintendent of Insurance Gregory Serio announced the arrest of Raphael Benjamin of Brooklyn, New York, who was charged with insurance fraud, forgery, grand larceny and falsifying business records.
It is alleged that Benjamin, 63, sold a fraudulent automobile insurance ID card to a neighbor for $3,000. Nationwide Insurance Company, the insurer named on the card, confirmed that it was fraudulent.
Benjamin was arrested Wednesday and will be held for arraignment in Kings County Court. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. The investigation was conducted by the Department’s Frauds Bureau with the assistance of the Brooklyn Fraudulent Accident Investigation Squad 84th PCT.
