A Suffolk County, New York woman has pleaded guilty to unlawfully cashing checks payable to her deceased mother in a case of workers’ compensation insurance fraud, according to the New York State Insurance Fund.
Fund officials said that Renee Kelleher, of Ronkonkoma, New York admitted to unlawfully cashing checks totaling $4,393 between March and July of 2004. NYSIF said she was arrested by Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota’s Office on May 4 of this year following an investigation carried out by NYSIF’s Division of Confidential Investigations.
Kelleher pleaded guilty to felony grand larceny on June 6, 2006 and was sentenced to five years probation, in addition to being ordered to pay restitution to NYSIF, according to officials.
