An insurer has settled a lawsuit over the death of an ironworker during construction of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.
The city-county Sports & Exhibition Authority had a policy with National Union Fire Insurance of New York covering construction of the new convention center.
Paul Corsi Jr., 37, of Moon Township, was killed when a 150-ton steel truss collapsed during construction in 2002, and National Union sued four contractors, claiming poor design and construction.
The case, which was scheduled for trial March 13, settled last Tuesday, according to a clerk for a for Allegheny County Judge Judith Freedman.
Terms were not disclosed. A spokesman for the Dick Corp., one of the contractors, declined to comment and messages left for the other companies were not immediately returned.
The director of the sports and exhibition authority declined to comment, saying the suit did not directly involve the agency.
