Buffalo, N.Y.-based Merchants Mutual Insurance Co. said its newly formed subsidiary, Merchants Preferred Insurance Co., has begun writing personal and commercial insurance in New Jersey.
Unlike its parent company, which writes standard risks, Merchants Preferred writes coverage for preferred individuals and businesses.
The two combined companies are known as Merchants Insurance Group, which also has Empire State offices in Hauppauge and Albany. The company’s N.J. operations are based in Moorestown.
