XL Group plc has promoted Matthew V. O’Malley to a new role as head of environmental underwriting operations in XL Group’s insurance operations. He is based in XL Group’s Exton, Penn., office.
Most recently, he served as senior vice president of planning and administration. In his new position, O’Malley expands his management responsibilities to include the environmental casualty business and North American field operations, as well as its sales and marketing team. He reports to Gary Kaplan, president of XL Group’s North America environmental and construction businesses.
During his 17-year tenure in the insurance industry, O’Malley has held numerous underwriting and management positions. In addition to his planning and administration role, he also managed the environmental group’s commercial business unit. He currently holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), and Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) designations.
