Boston Marathon Relief Fund Guidelines Released

May 17, 2013

The administrator of a fund created to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombings has released final guidelines for distributing the money.

The document released Wednesday gives top priority to the families of those who died, as well as double amputees and those who suffered permanent brain damage.

Next are those with single amputations, then those whose injuries required an overnight hospital stay. They’re followed by victims treated on an emergency outpatient basis.

The deadline to register for benefits is June 15. Claimants can then meet with fund administrator Kenneth Feinberg before payments go out June 30.

The fund has raised more than $30 million. But Feinberg says it still won’t be enough to justly compensate everyone.

The April 15 bombings killed three people and injured more than 260.
