The Brethren Mutual Insurance Company in Hagerstown, Maryland, announced the following new hires and promotions.
Jeff Borkowski joined Brethren Mutual as vice president of underwriting and marketing. He oversees the company’s Personal, Commercial and Farm Underwriting Departments, in addition to the Marketing and Product Management Services Departments.
Borkowski brings over 24 years of industry experience to the position. He previously served as branch manager for BITCO Insurance Companies in the Greater New Orleans area. He holds the CPCU (Charted Property Casualty Underwriter), CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) and ARe (Associate in Reinsurance) designations.
Joe Evelius was promoted to vice president of claims from claims manager. Overseeing a claims staff of over 30 individuals, Evelius focuses on communications, customer service, responsiveness, and subrogation. He holds the CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) designation.
Ken Jarvis was promoted to Personal Lines director from Virginia regional manager. Jarvis joined Brethren Mutual in 2011. His new duties as director include collaborating with Brethren Mutual’s product management team and regional managers to bring new Personal Lines products to market.
Sherry Taylor joined Brethren Mutual as Product Management Services manager. Taylor oversees the company’s Product Management Services Department (formerly known as the Rate & Compliance Department). Taylor and her staff are responsible for providing the tools and services to the lines of business Brethren Mutual writes.
Taylor previously served as manager/product analyst – Farm and Agribusiness for The American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS).
Bill McCartney was promoted to property claims manager from general adjuster. McCartney joined the company in 2002. He facilitates the claims process between in-house adjusters, independent adjusters, agents and the insureds.
Established in 1897, Brethren Mutual Insurance Company is based in Hagerstown, Maryland, and writes personal, commercial and farm business in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia through independent insurance agents. Brethren Mutual is the largest farm insurance writer in Maryland.
