
The Hilb Group, a middle market insurance agency based in Richmond, Virginia, has hired David Hobbs as president and chief operating officer.
The title of president was previously held by Chief Executive Officer Robert Hilb and COO is a newly created post. As president and COO, Hobbs will head the agency’s operations team, while CEO Hilb leads the agency’s growth team.
Hobbs most recently was president of Alabama operations for McGriff, Seibels & Williams, a regional insurance brokerage firm owned by BB&T. He also previously served as president of the Alabama region for Hilb Rogal & Hobbs Co. until it was acquired by the Willis Group in 2008.
Hobbs was also an original shareholder of The Hilb Group when the agency launched in 2009 and he has invested in The Hilb Group while working at McGriff, Seibels & Williams.
The Hilb Group, a portfolio company of Boston-based private equity firm ABRY Partners, seeks to grow through targeted acquisitions in the middle market insurance brokerage space. The agency has 37 office locations nationwide.
