The Maine company that employed a roofer who fell to his death has faced several fines lodged by federal safety authorities.
The Portland Press Herald reports that Purvis Home Improvements has been ordered to pay over $44,000 in fines since 2012 for failing to meet fall-protection safety standards.
The company didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. Authorities haven’t identified the man who died.
Police said a 30-year-old man died Thursday after falling off a roof he was working on in Portland. First responders transported the roofing company employee to Maine Medical Center, where he later died.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Friday confirmed it is inspecting the company.
Public safety records show OSHA cited and fined Purvis during four total inspections in 2012, 2015, and this year.
