A fast-moving fire destroyed at least two eateries and left several people homeless in a northern New Jersey community, authorities said.
The fire in downtown Ridgewood was reported around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. It started in a building housing a bagel shop and quickly spread to a nearby restaurant, authorities said.
The eateries were on the ground floors of the buildings, which also contained apartments. Everyone in the apartments were able to safely escape the flames, but the units are now uninhabitable, authorities said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
