Governor Glenn Youngkin declared a state of emergency for Virginia based on National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center forecasts that indicate the state could see significant rainfall and flooding from Tropical Storm Debby.
The Virginia Emergency Operations Center (VEOC) has been monitoring the movement of severe weather heading toward Virginia and anticipates its arrival on this evening.
Youngkin warned that the weather including high winds and potential storm surge could cause transportation difficulties and power outages.
“As we prepare for Tropical Storm Debby, I urge all Virginians and visitors to stay informed, follow local emergency guidelines, and take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their families and communities,” he said “It’s crucial that we work together and remain vigilant during these times to minimize the impact of the storm.”
The Virginia Emergency Support Team is coordinating resources and information. The VEOC will coordinate efforts with local, state and federal officials.
