DoorDash Expands Driver Savings Pilot Program to Maryland

May 21, 2025

DoorDash said it is expanding its benefits savings program with a new pilot in Maryland for eligible drivers.

Expenses covered under this program can include retirement savings, health, dental, and vision insurance, and paid time off.

DoorDash said similar pilot programs have been established in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

“This pilot is an important step toward strengthening independent work in the modern economy,” said Tony Xu, DoorDash CEO and co-founder. “Dashers consistently tell us they value the flexibility to choose when, where, and how they work. At DoorDash, we believe they deserve access to meaningful benefits without having to sacrifice that independence.”

Through the portable benefits platform named Stride, participants in Maryland can allocate their portable benefits savings to eligible categories most relevant to them, as well as access helpful information about benefits offerings.

Specifics of this pilot program include:

  • Maryland Dashers who earn at least $1,000 from April through June 2025 (before tips) through the DoorDash platform and complete at least 100 deliveries from Maryland merchants will be eligible to open a Stride Save* account in July and receive deposits into their portable benefits savings.
  • Beginning in July, participating Dashers will receive monthly deposits from DoorDash equal to 4% of their pre-tip earnings from April through September.
  • Participating Dashers will also be able to contribute personal funds as well, and the account and all funds will remain portable with them.

The pilot won praise from Governor Wes Moore. “We always want to be working toward finding solutions that give workers of all kinds an opportunity to succeed,” said Moore.
