Swiss Re appointed Mitchell E. Blaser CFO of its Americas division, the company’s non-life reinsurance business unit for all of the Americas, headquartered in Armonk, N.Y. Blaser also is a member of the Americas Management Board.
In his new post, Blaser is responsible for overseeing Americas division’s planning and controlling, accounting and actuarial reserving departments.
Blaser has nearly three decades of experience in the insurance and financial services industries, having served in various finance-oriented positions since 1973 at Marsh Inc., a $5 billion subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, New York.
Most recently, since 1999, Blaser was executive vice president, strategic and operational planning for Marsh. Prior to that, from 1995 to 1999, he was the company’s CFO and head of corporate services.
From 1992 to 1995, Blaser was Marsh’s chief planning and technology officer. This followed a four-year stint as the company’s managing director, strategic planning and budgets. From 1982 to 1988 he served as managing director, management analysis and budgets for Marsh.
In 1977, Blaser was named vice president, finance for Marsh & McLennan International Inc., a position he held for five years. He began his Marsh career in 1973 as assistant regional controller, with responsibilities for accounting and internal auditing.
