Bermuda-based Montpelier Reinsurance Ltd. announced that it has been named “Company Launch of the Year” at the ‘Review Worldwide Reinsurance Awards’, held on September 3rd in London.
The bulletin reported that, Jason Groves, Editor of ‘The Review – Worldwide Reinsurance’ Magazine stated, “With just over a year’s operation under their belts, the management of Montpelier Re have many reasons to celebrate. The company has concluded a successful stock market float and seen its premium volume grow steadily while maintaining the kind of combined ratio that is the envy of more established reinsurers. It is clearly one of the Bermuda start-ups to keep an eye on for the future.”
The company was formed by the White Mountains Insurance Group and international broker Benfield, following the Sept. 11 attacks.
President and CEO Anthony Taylor, commented: “We are very proud to receive this distinguished award, especially since there were many other successful company launches in late 2001. To be recognized as a new leader in such a competitive market is a major accomplishment. I accept this honor on behalf of all the team at Montpelier, whose dedication made this achievement possible.”
The announcement noted that “The awards are chosen from entries from around the world and adjudicated by a distinguished judging panel, including the CEO of the Benfield Group, Grahame Chilton, and the deputy CEO of the Swiss Re Group, Rudolf Kellenberger. The category was sponsored by reinsurance law firm Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.”
