Cross Appointed Chief Actuarial Officer for Non-Life Reinsurance at XL Capital

Bermuda-based XL Capital Ltd. announced the appointment of Susan L. Cross as chief actuarial officer – Non-Life Reinsurance, for XL’s reinsurance operations.

Cross, who is also chief actuary for XL Re Ltd., will continue to be based out of Bermuda and will report to Henry C.V. Keeling, XL’s chief executive of reinsurance operations.

Prior to joining the XL group of companies in 1999, Cross worked for the Wyatt Company from 1981 until 1984 and then for the Tillinghast business of Towers Perrin where she held increasingly responsible positions from 1984 to 1998, and became Principal of the firm in 1992. While at Tillinghast, Cross led the Asbestos Practice area, authored papers and spoke on the topics of Reinsurance and Asbestos, Environmental and Other Mass Tort Liabilities. Cross is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Keeling commented: “This role is an important development for XL’s reinsurance segment as it will be the first time there is a global focus on the Non-Life Actuarial function. Susan will also assume responsibility for Strategic Planning and oversight of the Ceded Reinsurance function for the segment. Her strong technical background, detailed knowledge of the reinsurance segment and management team will be a most valuable asset to the business.”

Cross said: “We have tremendous actuarial talent in the reinsurance segment and I look forward to working closely with my colleagues throughout the group to efficiently and effectively leverage those capabilities.”
