Herbert Palmberger has joined DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary as a partner at DLA’s Cologne office. Palmberger was previously a counsel at Cliffford Chance’s Düsseldorf office. Palmberger’s appointment marks a major emphasis by DLA on its German insurance market.
Before joining Clifford Chance, Palmberger worked in-house at several insurance and reinsurance companies, including Hannover Re and Chubb. He joins DLA May 1.
The hire continues DLA’s expansion in Germany since its Cologne debut last year. After splitting with German ally Görg, DLA has raided the firm for managing partner Ulrich Jungst and has taken three partners to launch in Hamburg. The firm gained project finance expertise with the hire of Lovells senior associate Frank Roth and bolstered its corporate ranks with Clifford Chance partner Martin Schulte.
