Aon Re Global has appointed Robert J. Cooney as Managing Director of Aon Capital Markets. He will report to Paul Schultz, President of Aon Capital Markets, and will also serve as Vice Chairman of Aon Re Global – Bermuda. He is based in Bermuda.
As managing director, Cooney, 53, will be responsible for originating capital market and financial advisory transactions both in Bermuda and in the U.K. In his role as vice chairman, he will work with current management to build and expand Aon Re Global’s Bermuda platform.
Michael D. O’Halleran, Executive Chairman of Aon Re Global, described Cooney as “industry expert with a proven track record in reinsurance and capital markets,” indicating that he will further strengthen the division’s presence in providing its clients with “integrated capital solutions and services.”
Cooney previously served as a director of Max Re from its formation in July 1999 and as president and CEO from September 1999 to October 2006. From 1987 to 1998 he held various senior management positions at XL Capital Ltd, including president and CEO of XL Insurance Ltd and Executive Vice President of XL Capital Ltd.
