Zurich Financial Services Group has appointed Ian Parker (43, UK citizen) to the position of CEO Direct business for Europe General Insurance (EGI) effective immediately.
He has been acting as interim head of the direct business in addition to his role as Head of Strategy for EGI for the last few months. Parker succeeds Theo Bouts who was appointed Chief Operating Officer for Zurich’s Global Life segment in July 2008.
He will be “responsible for further evolving and implementing EGI’s strategy and plan for Zurich’s direct business which will enable Zurich to capture and increase its share of this important and growing market in Europe,” said the bulletin. He will continue to report to Annette Court, CEO Europe General Insurance.
Parker joined Zurich as Head of Strategy for EGI in February 2008 from Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance where he most recently was managing a general insurance joint venture with the Bank of China in Beijing. Prior to that he held various senior leadership roles and headed up both business and strategy units. Before that he was a partner in a strategic management consultancy and also worked for Eagle Star in the direct business amongst other things from 1996 until 1998 prior to the merger with Zurich. Ian holds a MBA from Ashridge Management College, and a BSc from the Open University.
