Marsh Appoints Nicholson as UK Risk and Governance Director

July 7, 2009

Marsh announced that it has appointed John Nicholson as Risk and Governance Director of Marsh in the UK, a newly created position within the company. He will lead Marsh’s ongoing program to develop and embed robust risk management and governance policies across the firm’s UK activities.

“Nicholson will work closely with Marsh’s UK business leaders and the firm’s compliance, internal audit, legal and risk teams,” said the bulletin. “Matt Kimber, who was recently appointed as UK Chief Risk Officer, will report to him.” Nicholson will report directly to Martin South, UK Chief Executive Officer, and Non-Executive Chairman Sir Peter Middleton.

Nicholson has worked as an insurance broker and risk adviser for over 35 years, the last 11 in various senior management positions at Marsh. He is currently Chairman of Marsh’s middle market business in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man. He will undertake his new responsibilities in addition to his current role.

Commenting on his new role, Nicholson noted: “How companies manage their risk is crucial to retaining and winning clients and maintaining stakeholder confidence. Marsh is simply practicing what we preach to clients: be aware of risk, make conscious decisions regarding risk and see risk as an opportunity.”

South added: “John has been at the forefront of implementing innovative strategies at Marsh to address key issues such as Treating Customers Fairly and financial crime governance. Under his guidance, I am confident that Marsh will continue to provide the benchmark for risk management in the UK.”
