June 8, 2011

Bermuda-based AXIS Capital Holdings Limited announced that William A. Fischer, the CEO of AXIS Re, will leave that position, but will assume the new role of Chief Underwriting Officer of AXIS Re as well as becoming the CEO of AXIS Re U.S. He will be relocating to the AXIS Re office in New York City, which, the bulletin said, was “for personal reasons.”

The Company is conducting an executive search to replace Fischer in the post of AXIS Re’s CEO.

As Chief Underwriting Officer of AXIS Re, Fischer will be responsible for the establishment and oversight of underwriting policy and deployment of capital allocated to AXIS Re. In his role as CEO of AXIS Re U.S., he will manage all strategic and operating activities of AXIS Re U.S. Fischer will also continue in his leadership role at AXIS Capital as a member of the Company’s Executive Committee.

John Charman, CEO and President of AXIS Capital, commented: “The AXIS family fully supports Bill’s decision to move back to New York for personal reasons and we acknowledge the tremendous contribution he has made to our organization since our inception.” He added that the company would continue to profit from Fischer’s leadership and expertise in the U.S., as it is “the largest reinsurance market in the world.”
