Willis Re, the reinsurance arm of Willis Group Holdings, announced the appointment of Tony Melia as CEO of Willis Re International, effective immediately.
He has been with Willis Re since 1988, and will lead the International Business Unit, which covers Europe, Asia, Latin America and emerging markets business. Melia is based in London and will report to John Cavanagh, CEO Willis Re.
The announcement noted that Melia was originally responsible for generating business growth in Southern Europe. He has held a number of posts within Willis Re, “including establishing the company’s first analytics department and creating and developing Willis Re’s financial modeling platform, Willis iFM.” He most recently served as Managing Director of European Business, responsible for reinsurance placements with some of Europe’s largest insurance groups.
Cavanagh pointed out that Willis Re sees “great growth potential in our International business,” which would benefit from Melia’s “experience and knowledge.” He also indicated that the company had appointed Melia, “knowing that he will bring the same focus to our International business unit. With 24 years of experience at Willis Re and an excellent track record, Tony has a deep understanding of all our offerings and our clients’ needs.”
