Doha-based Qatar Re has announced the appointment of Stephan Rappaz as Global Head of Liability, effective December 1, 2014. Rappaz joins from New Re where, most recently, he was Head of Casualty Underwriting.
Prior assignments at New Re include Head of Underwriting UK, Ireland and Nordic countries as well as senior treaty and facultative underwriting roles. Stephan Rappaz started his career working as an insurance claims adjuster in the early 1980s, spending most of his time at Schweiz Insurance Company. By the mid-1990s he moved on to Swiss Re where he became Facultative Casualty Underwriter for the European and Latin American markets. He is a Qualified Associate Risk Manager (ARM) from the Insurance Institute of America.
Qatar Re CEO Gunther Saacke noted that Rappaz would “strengthen our senior underwriting team.” He also cited Rappaz’ experience and “in-depth knowledge of the European and overseas liability markets” as “key assets to Qatar Re.”
