The PERILS Windstorm Exposure data for Europe is now available in the Impact Forecasting ELEMENTS format.
In a telephone interview Adam Podlaha, head of Aon Benfield lmpact Forecasting, said that Aon Benfield has licensed the use of the PERILS data and has integrated it into ELEMENTS, its European windstorm model. Users can now download the data in either the PERILS’ format or the Elements format. He said that making the data available on both sites eliminates the necessity of changing formats, thereby “making the data more accessible.”
The PERILS data is gathered “as the event happens,” giving users the opportunity to follow the “event footprints for windstorm and flood” as they proceed. This enables insurers and reinsurers to download the data in real time and thereby calculate potential losses from the event at an early stage.
Podlaha also said he and his team are currently working on models for terrorist attacks on major cities, starting with New York.
