October 19, 2015

Willis Group Holdings announced the appointment of Alex Clayton as Head of Construction for Willis GB, the operating segment that includes Willis’s specialty, facultative and retail insurance businesses in Great Britain.

He is based in London and will be working alongside the existing construction leadership team, and will focus on leading the local construction team and overseeing the risk management and brokerage requirements for all of Willis’s major construction industry clients.

The announcement noted that “Clayton has experience of leading a number of high-performing specialty teams at Willis, including in terrorism, general liability and property. In his current capacity he heads up the Latin American and Caribbean property team out of London.

He will assume his new role as of the 1st of November, but will continue with his current responsibilities until the end of the year.

Alistair Rivers, Head of Property & Casualty for Willis GB, commented: “Today, more than ever, the construction industry is evolving rapidly as contractors are diversifying their operations, entering new global markets, taking on greater contractual risk and being asked to provide private funding for many projects. To help them navigate this environment, our clients need intelligence based solutions that deliver resilience and help them meet their commercial objectives.”

Bill Creedon, Global Head of Willis’s Construction Industry, added: “Willis’s London based center of excellence for construction is the very essence of what differentiates our global client offering.” He described Clayton as a “vital cornerstone of our operations, reinforcing our commitment to deliver the best solutions for our construction clients globally. He will marshal Willis’s global resources and help to build and develop the strongest construction team in our industry.”

Clayton commented: “Willis already has an enviable reputation in the construction sector. We have a recipe for success, with a highly regarded team of specialists and a reputation for delivering innovative solutions in partnership with underwriters. I am personally very excited about leading the team as we match Willis’s strong, nimble and global capabilities with the changing needs of our clients.”
