UK Broker Price Forbes Taps Hewett from JLT as Leader of Sharing Economy Practice

April 2, 2019

Price Forbes, a London-based broker, has appointed Emma Hewett as leader of its Sharing Economy practice.

Price Forbes said its Sharing Economy practice was one of the first established broking teams to specialize in designing insurance programs for emerging and fast-growing companies using technology to disrupt traditional marketplaces, such as self-driving cars, augmented reality platforms, on-demand delivery drivers and peer-to-peer sharing platforms.

Joining from Jardine Lloyd Thompson, Hewett has a strong background in working with clients across the sharing economy, with a particular interest in insuring autonomous vehicles, said Price Forbes in a statement. Before she worked at JLT, Hewett was North American casualty broker for Marsh. Her insurance career began as an assistant to the underwriting team of CV Starr’s London Casualty division when it was established in 2009.

“Price Forbes was one of the first brokers in the London market to realize the potential of the sharing economy, and I am excited about leading the team in this dedicated practice,” said Hewett.

“Given the growth in the sharing economy industry and carriers’ desire to innovate, we are starting to see a real appetite in this space,” she added.

“As an independent broker, Price Forbes’ culture is well aligned with the start-up sector. They want to know that we will care as much about their business as they do and that we are committed to growing with them; they do not just want to be seen as a number on the balance sheet,” Hewett went on to say.

Price Forbes’ Sharing Economy practice was originally set up and led by Jack Keyes, who has now moved into an underwriting role with a Lloyd’s syndicate where he will specialize in the sharing economy arena.

Price Forbes & Partners Ltd. is an independent specialty insurance broker with offices in Bermuda, Brussels, Chile, Dubai, London, South Africa and Malaysia. In 2017, it became part of the Ardonagh Group, an independent broking and underwriting group, based in St Helier, Jersey, one of the Channel Islands.
