AEGIS London, the Lloyd’s syndicate and subsidiary of AEGIS (Associated Electric & Gas Insurance Services Ltd.), announced that David Croom-Johnson, chief executive officer since 2015, will retire on June 30, 2022 when he will be succeeded by Alex Powell, subject to regulatory approval.

David Croom Johnson

Powell is currently chief underwriting officer of AEGIS London where he has responsibility for the oversight and delivery of the underwriting business plan. Prior to assuming the active underwriter role in 2015, Powell had responsibility for the property and terrorism accounts and had underwritten property business since joining the syndicate in 2000. He began his insurance career more than 20 years ago, when after four years as a broker, he became an underwriter. He has been a member and past chair of Lloyd’s Market Association Worldwide Property Panel and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute Insurance.

Alexander Powell

Croom-Johnson joined AEGIS London in 2000 as head of Casualty from the Janson Green Syndicate and was appointed active underwriter in 2007. In 2015, he became managing director.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to lead AEGIS London over the past seven years and now seems the natural time to step aside,” commented Croom-Johnson. “I will be leaving the syndicate as a top quartile performer in the excellent hands of a high-quality management team led by Alex with whom I have worked for many years and who has been a major contributor to our success to date.”

Bill Cullen, president and CEO of AEGIS, said, “David has been a part of AEGIS London from the very beginning. We thank him for his 20 years of service and all of his contributions to the syndicate’s success.”

Cyber Insurtech Corvus Names Zurich’s Delvos as 1st Head of Int’l

Corvus Insurance, the Boston-based, cyber-focused managing general agent, announced that, as part of its continued global expansion, Oliver Delvos will be joining the organization as its head of International in the summer of 2022.

Oliver Delvos

In this new role, Delvos, who currently leads global cyber underwriting at Zurich Insurance Group, will develop and implement Corvus’s long-term operational and organizational strategy for territories outside of the U.S., with an initial focus on Continental Europe.

At Zurich, Delvos developed the global cyber proposition with cyber risk engineering in over 20 Zurich offices worldwide. Prior to Zurich, he led AIG’s cyber underwriting team in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Delvos holds a German degree in business law, a master of laws degree from Wellington University in New Zealand, and a master of science from the London School of Economics.

Delvos will lead Corvus’s office in Frankfurt, Germany, slated to open later in 2022. There, he will be tasked with building a global team of underwriters and other key personnel while developing risk capital structures for programs to support growth of Corvus’s international portfolio. The new team will have an initial focus on excess cyber placements across Continental Europe, expanding Corvus’s cyber capabilities and technology in order to support policyholders across the globe from cyber threats.

As cyber crime continues to erase borders, the addition of Delvos to the Corvus team is a key part of its expansion into the global market, said Corvus in a statement. Corvus kicked off 2022 with its acquisition of Tarian Underwriting Ltd., a leading cyber underwriting platform that underwrites on behalf of a consortium of Lloyd’s syndicates with an international footprint covering the UK, US, Middle East, Canada, and Australia.
