MS Amlin, the Lloyd’s global re/insurer, announced the appointment of Christiern Dart as chief executive officer (CEO).
Dart, previously group chief underwriting officer (CUO) at Brit, will take up the role in January 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
Dart succeeds Andrew Carrier who, after three years as CEO, has chosen to retire from his current position. Carrier will remain with the wider Mitsui Sumitomo (MSI) group as an executive officer, where he will provide counsel and insight to the MSI executive team as it continues to expand both its operations and its ambitions in international markets.
Dart brings more than three decades of leadership experience in international re/insurance markets and will assume his role at a time of continued high performance at MS Amlin.

Dart spent 17 years at Brit, including five years as group CUO, overseeing an underwriting capacity of over GBP £2 billion across a multi-line portfolio. Dart’s leadership saw the company navigate multiple major market events, deftly managing the challenge of balancing growth and bottom-line performance.
During his time at Brit, Dart continued to rise through the business with periods initially as deputy active underwriter for Syndicate 2987, then active underwriter for both Syndicate 2987 and 2988. He began his career at Brit underwriting its North American property and casualty (P/C) portfolio, a responsibility he also held previously at Liberty Syndicates and CNA Re, where he began his underwriting career in 1994.
MS Amlin said Carrier’s guidance and leadership helped transform the insurer’s fortunes, steering it to a position of stability and high performance, where it has delivered both its best financial result in over a decade in 2023, and demonstrated repeated success in 2024.
Carrier will remain with MS Amlin until the end of the year to support a smooth transition and regulatory handover.

“I am delighted to announce Christiern’s appointment as MS Amlin’s new CEO. His leadership and strategic approach at Brit clearly demonstrate his talent, and I speak for the board and the broader executive team in MSI, when I say how excited I am for him to start his new role with us and take the company to the next stage of its development,” commented Shinichiro Funabiki, president and CEO of Mitsui Sumitomo.
Funabiki went on to thank Carrier for everything he achieved during his tenure, “from 2020 as CUO, and particularly the last three years as CEO.”
“He brought a renewed underwriting discipline to the business that has left such a positive mark on our company consciousness that his presence will be felt long after he moves into his new role as executive officer for MSI,” Funabiki continued.
