April 14, 2003

North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jim Poolman and Nodak Mutual Insurance Company President Doug Goehring announced today that insurance executive Bruce A. Trost will be the new Chief Executive Officer of the company. Trost was hired this week after the newly formed Nodak board of directors conducted interviews last weekend.

“Trost brings valuable insurance and leadership experience to Nodak, and we are pleased that he has agreed to lead the company.” Goehring said.

Trost, 47, is currently vice president of property casualty operations for Country Insurance and Financial Services, a $1.1 Billion company located in Bloomington, Illinois. He has been in that position since 1999.

“My wife Brenda and I are very excited about our pending move to North Dakota.” Trost said, “This Company was founded 57 years ago to serve the policyholders in North Dakota. It has a strong history and I look forward to leading it to an even stronger future of service to all of the policyholders.”

Trost is expected to start full time at the company by May 1st. In the mean time, he will be traveling back and forth from Illinois.

Nodak Mutual Insurance Company was placed under control of Insurance Commissioner in September of last year after conflict between the Board of Directors and senior management. Poolman said today “Having permanent leadership of Trost’s caliber in this company is exciting, and this hire will allow the company to continue the tradition of quality products and services that have been provided to the people of North Dakota. This excellent hire moves us one step closer to a healthy insurance company that will be successful for years to come.”

Poolman is expected to lift administrative supervision of the company when the financial examination of the company is completed. Examiners are currently in the company and expected to finish their work in the next few weeks.
