Alleged insurance fraudster Michael Segal had a paralegal who worked in his Chicago-based brokerage take ethics and other legally required courses on his behalf, according to federal prosecutors.
Segal’s trial on numerous counts of insurance fraud related to the alleged misappropriation of more than $20 million from his Near North Insurance Brokerage Inc. begins April 19. Prosectuors in U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois asked Judge Ruben Castillo to allow them to include the evidence in the trial.
Federal prosecutors said in a brief that a former Near North paralegal was asked by Segal to complete the coursework required by the Illinois insurance department annually, according to the Associated Press.
Segal has pleaded innocent to all the charges and said no funds were misappropriated.
